Our History
During my many visits to India, I was always amazed at how bright everyone’s smile was. Even those who likely could not afford expensive electric toothbrushes and teeth whitening products. They all had beautiful smiles. Asking around, I found that one potential reason for those amazing smiles was the neem tree.
The neem tree is a fast-growing tree that thrives in areas with tropical climates, such as India. Products made from neem trees have been used for medicinal purposes in India for centuries. In fact, Ayurvedic texts make numerous mentions of the natural benefits of neem. People have used branches plucked from the neem tree to clean their teeth dating as far back as 5000 years ago.
Even today, many villagers in India are known to pluck a twig off a roadside neem tree. They chew one end of the twig into “bristles”, and brush their teeth — without a regular toothbrush or any toothpaste. The neem juice within the branch acts as the cleaning agent. The juice has been known to have antiseptic and antimicrobial properties, as well as small amounts of naturally occurring fluoride.
Given the multi-millennia body of evidence of the natural effectiveness of neem, we thought it was time to bring the neem tree into the 21st Century. We combined the ancient and natural cleaning capacity of the neem tree with the modern cleaning power of the electric toothbrush.
